About Academy of Rock
We love Academy of Rock. It’s all about bringing kids together who want to learn how to rock. That’s really the core of what we do. A lot of people ask, “Is it like the movie? The one with Jack Black?” The answer is sort of. There’s a huge need in Lincoln, Nebraska to reach teens and we feel the best way is to meet them half way with one of the things they like best. Rock. All over the place, kids are sitting at home trying to figure out how to play guitar, driving teachers mad with homemade pencil beats on their desks, walking around with Ipods while air guitaring monster solos, they get together to play Rock Band and Guitar Hero.

We are the real thing. We teach them how to REALLY do it. With the help of awesome local professional musicians who are in bands or have been in bands, we get kids of all experience levels together and teach them how to play the music they love so much. Then we get them up on stage and let them go. We end up with an experience that changes lives. AOR builds self esteem and confidence, triggers creativity, and taps into a part of each kid that is just screaming to get out.

We Are…
Academy of Rock is a contemporary rock music program of The Northeast Family Center (non-profit 501(c)3)  in Lincoln, NE for students in Kindergarten – 12th grades. We offer beginning, next level, original bands, blues, individual lessons, and special projects to students of all ages, ability levels, and interests. What we do best is match kids up with each other, form bands, and teach them how to ROCK!

Academy of Rock Mission
Through positive mentorship and instruction from professional musicians and artists, the Northeast Family Center’s Academy of Rock program will provide the opportunity for youth of all ages to explore their musical and artistic interests, engage these youth in a creative atmosphere, and empower them to become strong leaders and outstanding team members within a group and their community, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender or income.
